WHY WE CARRY THESE

A short list of houses earns this floor.

We don't add brands lightly. Most of what gets pitched to us doesn't make it onto the floor. The three American houses that did — John Michael Designs, Capris, and Stanley Chair — earned it the same way: they make furniture that's still standing in the same living room twenty years later.

What that means in plain language. Kiln-dried hardwood frames that don't twist when the air conditioning is fighting the August humidity. Heavy-gauge spring seats, hand-set into the frame, that hold the cushion shape after the kids stop being kids. Upholstery you can specify down to the leg finish, in fabrics that take Florida light without giving up on the color.

    Kiln-dried hardwood frames.

    Most furniture at the chains is built on engineered wood and particleboard. The houses we carry build on kiln-dried hardwood — the same construction that's held sofas up for a hundred years. Twenty Florida summers later, the frame is still square.

    Heavy spring seats, hand-set into the frame.

    The seat is what gives out first on a cheap sofa. The houses we carry use heavy-gauge spring systems hand-set into the frame, not stamped in by machine. That's the construction that holds the cushion shape twenty Florida summers later.
