Most people arrive with a number in their head, and the number is usually wrong in one direction or the other. So here is the real map of the category, including the parts that do not flatter us.
What cabinet beds actually cost
The category runs roughly like this:
- Around $1,200 — marketplace and big-box units. Mostly particle board or engineered panel, thinner mattress, flat-packed, and you assemble it yourself.
- Roughly $1,500 to $2,000 — the middle of the market. Better materials, better mattress, still often delivered curbside in a box.
- Roughly $2,000 to $3,000 — solid hardwood construction from the established American makers, a real tri-fold memory foam mattress, proper hardware, and a finish you would keep in a living room.
- $8,000 and up — built-in wall units. Different product entirely: carpentry, installation, and a permanent fixture in your house.
The two-thousand-dollar wall
There is a real psychological wall right around $2,000 on a piece of furniture that is not a sofa or a dining set, and it is worth naming out loud rather than pretending it does not exist.
What changes as you cross it is not branding. It is solid wood instead of engineered panel, a mattress you would put a guest on without apologising, hardware rated for years of opening rather than months, and someone other than you carrying it up the stairs.
What we do not do
We do not compete with the $1,200 marketplace cabinet bed, and I would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
If your ceiling is genuinely $1,200, buy the marketplace unit. It will work. Just go in knowing what you are buying: you will assemble it, the panel construction will not love Florida humidity the way solid wood does, and if something fails in year three there is nobody local to call.
That trade is completely reasonable for some households. It is simply not the trade we are set up to sell.
What the price covers here
When you buy a cabinet bed from us, delivery is free white glove within sixty miles. Our own crew brings it in, places it in the room you want it in, and makes sure it opens and closes properly before they leave. You are not meeting a freight truck at the kerb with a hand truck and a prayer.
Twelve months special financing is available if spreading it out makes the decision easier.
The arithmetic nobody runs
A cabinet bed is not really competing with another bed. It is competing with the room.
Put a number on the alternative. If guests currently mean a hotel, two nights a few times a year adds up faster than the bed does. If guests currently mean an air mattress, the cost is not money, it is whether your mother-in-law sleeps well enough to enjoy the visit. And a decent cabinet bed is a ten-year piece of furniture that spends most of its life as a console.
Divide the price across ten years of guest nights and the number stops looking like a splurge. That is the calculation that actually settles this one.
