Rattan done right is structure, not decoration
A lot of what sells as rattan today is veneer over softwood. The real thing uses mature poles and joinery that has worked for a century: fish-mouth joints wrapped in rawhide. Alexander and Sheridan still builds that way, and I have been ordering from them long enough to know what comes off their truck.
