WHY WE CARRY IT

A short list of brands earns this floor.

We don't add brands lightly. Most of what gets pitched to us doesn't make it onto the showroom floor. Leather Italia did, and the leather itself is what made the case.

They're one of the few furniture houses that still grade and finish their own hides — all Italian top-grain, all handled by people whose only job is to know leather. What that gives you in your living room: a piece that feels right at month one and still feels right at year eight, sitting on a hardwood frame built to outlast the trends in the rest of the room.

Come sit on it.

ITALIAN ROOTS

Tuscany, 1996.

Leather Italia was founded in 1996 with four leather furniture models from the Tuscany region of Italy, presented to the American market the following spring at the 1997 High Point Furniture Market.

Twenty-five years later, the Italian commitment hasn't moved. Hides are produced, tanned, and dyed in Italy, then graded and finished in-house by Leather Italia. The frames and the assembly happen at partner facilities, varying by model. The leather — the part that touches you and ages with the room — is fully Italian, end to end.

The company is still run by its founder, Michael Campbell.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

Three things to know before you sit on a Leather Italia piece.

  1. Leather Italia Traverse sofas in Ocean Blue and Millbrook Taupe leather

    01.

    Italian top-grain, premium grade.

Leather Italia uses Italian top-grain leather throughout — the second-highest leather grade, with the surface buffed for everyday durability. Top-grain wears in over years rather than wearing out. It's the leather you want on a piece you sit on every evening for a decade.

    02.

    Graded and finished in-house.

Most leather furniture brands buy their leather pre-finished. Leather Italia is one of a handful of manufacturers who still grade and finish raw hides themselves — separating the upholstery-grade portion of every hide from the rest, and dialing in the finish to their own standard. The leather you sit on came through their hands, not someone else's.

  3. Leather Italia Kelly recliner detail at Atlantic Fine Furniture

    03.

    Hardwood frame, corner-blocked.

Padded hardwood frame with corner blocking at the load-bearing seams. The frame is what decides whether a sofa is still standing in fifteen years. Leather Italia builds them to be standing. The factory backs the frame and seat with a five-year limited warranty.
