This is the question that stops more cabinet bed purchases than price does, and it is almost never answered with actual numbers. So here are ours, pulled from the specifications of the cabinet beds we currently carry.
The three measurements that decide it
Not ten. Three.
Wall space, closed. Around 64 inches wide and 24 inches deep for a typical queen cabinet bed. That is roughly the footprint of a six-drawer dresser. If a dresser fits that wall, the cabinet fits that wall.
Floor space, open. Measure out from the wall. Most of our queen models need about 82 inches of clear floor, and the deployed bed is 60 inches wide. Add walking room beyond that and you have the real requirement.
Your narrowest doorway. Every cabinet bed we carry lists a 32-inch doorway clearance. Check the tightest point on the delivery path, not just the room door.
If those three clear, it fits. Everything else is detail.
The real ranges across our floor
These are the figures from the models we stock, not category averages copied from somewhere else.

Individual models vary and some manufacturers publish approximate figures, so the specification on the model's own page is the one to plan against. But the shape of the answer does not change much: about a dresser closed, about seven feet of floor open, 32 inches to get it in the door.
What this means in a real room
Take a common Florida spare bedroom at 10 by 11 feet, already holding a desk.
The cabinet takes 64 inches of one wall. The desk keeps its wall. Closed, you have a room with a desk and a sideboard in it, and full floor space in the middle.
When guests come, you need 82 inches out from the cabinet wall. In an 11-foot room that is 132 inches wall to wall, leaving about 50 inches beyond the foot of the bed. That is a comfortable walkway.
The room that gets tight is not the small room. It is the room where the only free wall is the one facing a doorway or a closet you still need to open with the bed down. That is worth thinking through before you buy, and it is the single most common fit problem in this category.
What you do not have to worry about
Ceiling height. Nothing. A cabinet bed rolls out horizontally at knee height. A wall-mounted Murphy bed pivots down from vertical and needs the swing clearance; a cabinet bed does not.
Wall construction. Also nothing. These are freestanding furniture — no studs, no anchors, no reinforcement, no installer. Interior walls, exterior walls, a room you rent, a room you may reconfigure next year. It stands where a dresser would stand.
Assembly. Most models arrive assembled. Our crew brings it in and places it.
How to check your room in five minutes
Do this before you come in and you will shop with certainty instead of hoping.
Find the wall. You need 65 inches of clear wall, ignoring anything above 42 inches high. Pictures and shelves above the cabinet are fine.
Measure out from that wall. Run the tape to 82 inches and put a piece of tape on the floor. That is the foot of the bed. Look at what is behind it — a doorway swing, a closet, a radiator, a floor lamp.
Walk the delivery path. Front door, hallway turns, the room door. Find the narrowest point and confirm it is at least 32 inches.
Check the door swing. If a door opens into the space the bed will occupy, either the door or the wall has to change. This is the one people miss.
Note the outlets. Some models include integrated power in the cabinet, which is worth knowing if the wall you picked has no outlet.
Bring your numbers
